HUNGARY CELEBRATES 57TH ANNIVERSARY OF REVOLUTION
On the occasion of the National Day of Hungary, the 57th Anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and War of Independence

On the occasion of the National Day of Hungary, the 57th Anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and War of Independence, and the Armed Forces Day of Hungary; Ambassador of Hungary Janos Hovari and his wife Reka Csoori-Banyai and Lt. Col. Zoltan Sallai and his wife Andrea hosted a grand reception at JW Marriott Ankara.
The reception hall hosted more than seven hundred people from all walks of life including, deputies, academicians, members of diplomatic community, students, businessmen, bureaucrats, and Turkish community members close to the Embassy.
Guests of honors of the event was Deputy State Secretary, Political Director of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Szabolcs Takács, Turkish EU Affairs Minister Egemen Bağış, and Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Republic of Turkey General Yaşar Güler.
Also among the guests was Deputy Undersecretary Ambassador Hasan Göğüş who will soon be heading for Vienna as Ambassador of Turkey to Austria, new Ambassador of Turkey to Budapest Şakir Fakılı, the new Turkish Ambassador to Mongolia Murat Karagöz. Also Deputy Vural Kavuncu, Chairman of the Turkish-Hungarian Friendship Group in the Parliament, and Deputy Selçuk Özdağ, Vice-Chairman of the Turkish-Hungarian Friendship Group in the Parliament were present at the event.
Hungarys Consul General in Istanbul Gábor Kiss had come in from Istanbul while Hungarys Honorary Consuls Bahaeddin Nakiboğlu had come in from Gaziantep and Alpaslan Kaya from Izmir.
Following the National Anthems of both countries, Deputy State Secretary, Political Director of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Szabolcs Takács, Turkish EU Affairs Minister Egemen Bağış and Ambassador Hovari delivered speeches.
Deputy State Secretary Takács in his speech said he would like to take the opportunity to thank the Turkish people for standing by us during the 1956 Revolution. In 1956, Turkey gave asylum to hundreds of Hungarian refugees fleeing from prosecution.
Takács said, We Hungarians consider the Turkish people our friends, our brothers and sisters. The Turks are the people with whom Hungarians have had the longest-standing continuous historical relationship. Our first encounters date back to 1500 years ago.
I would like to make it loud and clear: Hungary is and will remain committed to seeing Turkeys EU accession negotiations advance and lead to the full membership of Turkey in the European Union, Takács said.
Meanwhile Ambassador Hovari in his speech said that "Hungarian-Turkish relations date back to very old times
Very deep sympathy and brotherhood have existed between our nations since the beginning."
After the speeches Ambassador Hovari, Deputy State Secretary Takács, Minister Bağış and General Güler cut the celebration cake.
During the event while the host was busy with Minister and other officials, Counsellor of the Hungarian Embassy Zoltan Feher attended each guest proving the Hungarian hospitality.
